Connecting Akeneo PIM to Magento has never been so easy!
Background
Akeneo has been proud to be the Premier Technology Partner for PIM of Magento, an Adobe Company, for more than a year now. But our history with Magento is much older than that, and for as long as we can remember, the PIMGento extension has proven to be a true ally when it comes to connecting both platforms. Thanks to a plug-and-play approach and a user-friendly interface powered by our Gold Partner Dn’D, you could then easily and reliably import all your catalog data to your websites and improve the time-to-market.
Ecommerce leaders like Adeo, Auchan, Lancaster, and Made.com have trusted PIMGento capabilities to spread their Akeneo catalog, as well as their data model, to Magento 1 or 2.
Since 2018, the PIMGento integration also ensured a smooth and long-lasting experience thanks to the Akeneo REST API, designed to make the connection even faster than CSV imports. This newer version enabled merchants on SaaS to benefit from the latest versions of Akeneo PIM and Magento.
From PIMGento 2 to Akeneo Connector for Magento 2.
As part of our journey to help marketers crafting compelling product experiences, Akeneo recently introduced “Premium Connectors” to its Community. The purpose of these Premium Connectors is to offer customers an Akeneo-supported solution for connecting to, and keeping current with, platforms offered by Akeneo’s strategic Partners.
For Magento 2, we have selected Agence Dn’D to adapt their former PIMGento 2 API integration as the basis of our Premium Connector for Magento 2.
So what does that mean?
Akeneo now offers a SaaS-compliant integration for Magento merchants called Akeneo Connector for Magento 2, built from the former PIMGento 2 API module. There are two editions of our Premium Connector that are available:

a Community Edition version, open source, free of charge, not supported by Akeneo;

an Enterprise Edition version, subscription license, and technical support under the same conditions as Akeneo PIM.
The primary difference between these Connectors is the support for certain Enterprise Edition features, namely Product Assets and Reference Entities(*), and technical support from Akeneo.

(*) As Magento 2 does not have an equivalent concept to PIM "Reference Entity", since Akeneo Connector for Magento 2 version 100.2.1, we add a new feature to map PIM Reference Entities at product level in Magento 2: please be sure to read our documentation to understand the Connector configuration possibilities and how this works in Magento 2.
